United Spirits Limited, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture, sale and distribution of beverage alcohol (spirits and wines) in India. The company is a subsidiary of Relay B V.

The company has a brand portfolio with approximately 100 brands of Scotch whisky, IMFL whisky, brandy, rum, vodka, gin and wine. The company sells approximately 1 million cases annually covering 15 brands.

The company produces and sells approximately 78 million cases. McDowell’s No.1, Royal Challenge, Signature, Antiquity, Director’s Special Black, McDowell’s VSOP, Romanov, Bagpiper, Old Tavern, Haywards are some of the marquee brands owned by the company. In addition, the company imports, manufactures, distributes and sells various iconic Diageo brands, such as Haig Gold Label, Captain Morgan, Johnnie Walker, J&B, Baileys, Lagavulin, Talisker, VAT 69, Black & White, Smirnoff and Ciroc in India under different licensing agreements.

In addition, the company holds the perpetual right to the Bangalore Franchise of Board of Control for Cricket in India – Indian Premier League. The company also exports its products.

History

The company was formerly known as McDowell & Company Limited and changed its name to United Spirits Limited in 2006.
