Aurobindo Pharma Limited engages in the development, manufacturing and marketing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), intermediates and generic formulations. The company’s product portfolio is spread across 6 product areas encompassing (Antibiotics, Anti-Retro Virals, CVS, CNS, Gastroenterologicals, and Anti-Allergics) with approximately 65 APIs in the non-antibiotics and approximately 55 APIs in the antibiotic segment.

The company offers various products, including antibiotics, antivirals, antidepressants, antifungals, cardiovasculars, and macrolides. It manufactures bulk drugs comprising semi-synthetic penicillins and other products, such as cephalsoporins, quinolones, macrolides, and other bulk actives. The company also manufactures finished dosage products mainly in the categories of gastro respiratory infection pain; cardio neuro diabetes psychiatry; AIDS; and analgesics, anti infectives, and cough and cold injectables.

The company operates in approximately 100 countries, including India, Thailand, Hong Kong, the United States, Brazil, and China.

Strategic Alliances

Aurobindo Pharma, Ltd. and Hetero Drugs Limited have entered into a strategic alliance to set up export-oriented units. The companies would enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). The Green industrial park, near Hyderabad, is spread in approximately 960 acres and Hetero and Aurobindo would house their units on 240 acres. The park would focus on green technologies and a special economic zone for drugs and formulations.

Significant events

In November 2009, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. announced the inauguration of its formulations facility in Hyderabad. The facility (Unit VII) is in special economic zone near Hyderabad would serve to high-value non-batallactum products for regulated markets.

Aurobindo Pharma Limited was founded by P.V.Ramaprasad Reddy and K.Nityananda Reddy in 1986.
