Demant A/S develops, manufactures and sells products and equipment that help people with hearing loss connect and communicate worldwide. The company focuses on four business activities: hearing devices, hearing implants, diagnostic instruments and personal communication.

Hearing Devices

The company’s Hearing Devices business activity consists of four brands: Oticon, Bernafon, Sonic and Philips. The company also owns the global hearing aid retailer Audika and various larger and smaller retail chains. Oticon is a manufacturer of hearing care solutions, enabling people to live the life they want with the hearing they have. Bernafon has worked to develop and market solutions that help people with hearing difficulties. Sonic is a U.S.-based manufacturer of hearing care solutions. Sonic has a global sales network represented in approximately 35 countries and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the company. Phonic Ear and FrontRow develop, manufacture and distribute communication equipment within two main areas: assistive listening devices and sound field systems. Assistive listening devices, such as alarm systems, teleloop amplifiers and amplifier phones, are typically used by hearing impaired in their private homes or at work. FrontRow sound field systems are mainly used in classrooms.

Hearing Implants

The company owns a hearing implant company. Oticon Medical is a sister company of Oticon.

Diagnostic Instruments

The company’s business activity, Diagnostic Instruments, offers solutions for measurement and diagnostic within hearing and balance, including five audiometric companies. The companies are: Maico, Amplivox, Grason-Stadler, Interacoustics, MedRx and which develop, manufacture and distribute audiometers, tympanometers, balance systems, otoacoustic emission instruments and other instruments used by audiologists and ear-nose-and-throat specialists.

MAICO engages in developing, producing and distributing products ranging from hearing screening to diagnostic solutions. MAICO provides tools for hearing professionals. Interacoustics provides solutions for measurement and diagnosis within hearing and balance. Amplivox sells and services its own audiometers and tympanometers. Amplivox engages in the design, manufacture, supply and support of audiological equipment and services on a global basis.

The MedRx audiological product line is designed to assist hearing healthcare professionals in counselling, educating and informing both the patient and family members about the patient’s specific hearing loss and what could be done to alleviate the hearing loss.

History

The company was founded in 1904. It was formerly known as William Demant Holding A/S and changed its name to Demant A/S in March 2019.
