Services

The company provides fixed-line broadband and fixed-line telephone services through NTT East and NTT West, and is a major provider of such services in Japan. As of March 31, 2017, the number of combined NTT East and NTT West broadband service subscriptions for Hikari Access services and for ADSL services was 20,053 thousand subscriptions and 919 thousand subscriptions, respectively. Aggregate subscriber line subscriptions, which is the sum of fixed-line telephone service subscriptions and ISDN service subscriptions, totaled 21,336 thousand subscriptions. In addition, the company provides Internet service provider (ISP) services through NTT Communications and others. As of March 31, 2017, the number of ISP service subscriptions was 11,231 thousand subscriptions.

The company provides mobile broadband and mobile voice communications services through NTT DOCOMO. This service is provided through two networks, LTE and W-CDMA. As of March 31, 2017, NTT DOCOMO had 74,880 thousand subscribers and is a major provider of mobile phone services in Japan.

The company provides data communications services through NTT DATA. NTT DATA is a major provider of data communications systems and information systems using computer networks as a platform in Japan. NTT DATA primarily engages in strategic planning, designing, installing and operating data communications systems and computer network-based information systems, and providing IT services.

Significant Events

In April 2018, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. announced that they would set up a joint venture to develop new services, such as assistance for the introduction of large-scale renewable energy systems with batteries.

In September 2018, the company would establish a new company specializing in procurement, which would bring together the procurement volume of each Group company and engage in centralized price negotiations and the execution of agreements with vendors worldwide and others.

In March 2019, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation announced the launch of the Nexcenter Lab program to promote open innovation in partnership with participating companies. The program provides PoC environments for the development and testing of new businesses and services focused on digital transformation (DX), utilizing the latest services and next-generation technologies of NTT Com’s IT partners. The program is available at two of NTT Com’s Nexcenter data centers in Tokyo.

In July 2019, Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. and Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Corporation have agreed to promote collaboration based on three themes, such as enhancement of infrastructure safety and stability; enhanced facilitation of mobility; and co-creation of Tokyo's attractiveness and vitality.

In April 2020, Toyota Motor Corporation and NTT Corporation entered into a memorandum of understanding concerning a business and capital alliance. The purpose of the memorandum of understanding is to build a long-term and continuous co-operative relationship that enables the commercialization of smart city businesses, with each company being a core partner to share the same values and promote social development, with the intention of realizing smart cities, which continue to evolve in accordance with the needs of residents.

In August 2020, NTT Research, Inc., a division of the company, announced that its Cryptography and Information Security Lab has reached a joint research agreement with Stanford University. The four-year agreement with Stanford covers basic and fundamental research topics of cryptography and blockchain. The scope of work for the four-year agreement with Stanford includes various important areas of basic research in cryptography and blockchain.
